P.E. and sports

At Great Barton we encourage healthy bodies as well as healthy minds.

We buy into the Gipping Valley Sports Partnership who give the school a lot of access to specialist coaches, equipment and they help to organise a range of school competitions that children can get involved with.  Mr Green is our Sports Coach.  He works 2 days a week with our class teachers to deliver all aspects of the P.E. National Curriculum (apart from swimming).

We have a school hall which is used for indoor games, gymnastics and dance as well as other activities should the weather be poor.  We have a playground with fitness markings as well as netball posts.  We also have a large field with a trim trail and climbing frame.  Situated at the back of the field is a small woodland where we do Forest Schools activities on site.

We are lucky to have a wide range of PE resources and our year 5 pupils have to chance to become play leaders and organise a range of games and activities for children during break and lunchtimes.

Covid-19 - P.E. at home

Please find below a number of different options for encouraging young people to be active during lockdown. Joe Wicks is very popular,  what he is offering is essentially fitness training. And while he is quite obviously very good at what he does, it doesn't suit everyone and nor does it challenge children in the same way that PE does.  We hope that the following links will provide you with lots of choice for PE activities at home.
