Reading at home

Reading at home

Just 15 minutes of reading a day will make such a difference to the reading ability of your child. You can obviously read any books you have at home as well as the reading book provided by school.

Library books are ideal for adults to read to the children. This is a great way of modelling how to read, using expression and fluency.

To meet age related expectations, year 2 children are expected to read fluently at a rate of at least 90 words a minute!

If you'd like to see what a reading SATs paper looks like, here is one from a previous year.

If your child is due to retake the Year 1 phonics screening, you may find these powerpoints useful.
