Our Schools, Our World

Our School's Sustainability Journey

Over the last ten years, our Eco Schools team has led the way in embedding sustainability into our school culture. When the diocese invited us to join the Our Schools Our World project in early 2025, we saw the chance to take our work further — and to involve every pupil, parent, and staff member in shaping a greener future.

Eco-Schools - laying the foundations

Our Eco-team includes 2 children from each class in the team, led by Mrs Green.

Over many years they have:

  • Organised competitions
  • Shared their work
  • Met regularly to drive to action plan
  • Promoted recycling, biodiversity, energy efficiency and plastic pollution
  • Organised litter picks around the village
  • Achieved the "Gold" Green Tree Award
  • Planted a micro forest
  • Worked with Still Good Foods (a charity aiming to reduce food waste)
  • Recycled/Re-sold school uniform, ink cartridges, clothes (Bags 2 School)
  • Installed solar panels
  • Recycled items like pallets to make bug hotels, compost piles and a wormery

In addition to our Eco-Schools work, we also have:

  • Dedicated Forest Schools for all classes, all year round
  • School Gardening Club where we have been awarded several gardening certificates from the RHS
  • Wilder Schools project working in conjunction with Suffolk Wildlife Trust
  • Made bird boxes
  • Worked with the JRSOs to achieve Modeshift Stars and work with local councillors to encourage walk to school and anti-idling

Our Schools, Our World

About a year ago, we were invited to join the "Our Schools, Our World" project through the diocese.  When we heard of this initiative, we immediately recognised that it was the perfect next step for our school to build upon the work we have been doing, but to take it much further than we already were.  We committed several days of our time to attend training.  The training on the initiative is based upon Brighton's Our City, Our World programme.  To find out more about the programme please click here.

Mrs Green then became our Sustainability Lead, Emma Buckmaster our Sustainability Governor and the time came for us to plan for rolling out the programme to the rest of the school.

With the help of Luciana from Let's Go Zero, we audited our school and used this to write our Climate Action Plan.
